Foil Board and UV — Two Layers, One Box

New clients often lump everything under “UV box.” Useful to separate the parts:

• Metalized / foil board — paperboard with a metallic silver, gold, or coloured foil surface. This is the shimmer you see when print is stripped back or left untouched.
• UV coating — a cured gloss (or selective spot UV) applied on top of print or foil to add depth, scuff resistance, and highlight logos or patterns.

On press, colour prints on the foil surface as usual. Selected zones stay unprinted so the raw gold or silver shows through — that contrast is what makes foil packaging look expensive without printing the whole box in metallic ink. We map those knock-outs with you before plates are made so the final box matches the mock-up, not a surprise flash of the wrong silver tone.

Orders, Timing, and MOQ

Foil boxes need correct board sourcing, print alignment on metallic stock, and curing time for UV — so setup is heavier than a simple kraft takeaway box. Still, we keep entry at 100 units for plenty of custom foil jobs so you are not forced into a 1,000-piece first run.

Questions We Get on Foil & UV Boxes

Is metalized foil the same as UV printing?
No. Foil is the metallic board. UV is a coating finish applied over print or foil. Most “foil UV boxes” use both.

Can you print full colour on silver foil?
Yes. Colour prints on the foil surface; unprinted areas reveal the metallic base. We plan knock-outs so brand colours and silver show in the right places.

What is the minimum order?
Many custom metalized foil UV box projects start from 100 units. Final MOQ depends on size, foil type, and finishing — confirm with us before you lock packaging budget.

Do you only do silver foil?
No. We run gold, rose gold, rainbow/holographic, and standard silver metalized stock depending on availability and project needs.

I only have a logo — can you still quote?
Yes. Share box size, foil preference, quantity, and product type. Artwork development can follow once structure is set.
